Bandar Sri Indah
A RM2.5 billion project in Tawau, the biggest township in Sabah with 1,368 acres on a former oil palm estates. Started in 2004, the township is moving fast into Phase 5 of construction. The project is to grow into the largest business and residential hub in Tawau.
When fully completed Bandar Sri Indah will have 7,493 residential units (992 acres), 788 commercial units (96 acres), 527 industrial units (103 acres) and 28 acres of open space.
Amenities on 149 acres will include schools, hypermarket, community hall, sports centre, religious reserve, bus/taxi terminal, market, security centre, and petrol stations.
Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) has establish a “one-stop customer service centre” in a two units of double-storey shop at Bandar Sri Indah. The centre is providing services like application and renewal of trading licenses, as well as payment of assessment, postal services, settlement of electricity and water bills. Catering not only the residents of Bandar Sri Indah, but also the growing population of the Apas Balung area, planters and businessmen frequenting the Apas highway.
Bandar Sri Indah is a new modern township that is three times the size of the current Tawau town centre. A new settlement area for 70,000 people from within the Tawau Town.
Bandar Sri Indah, in the close vicinities of the Membelua and Babanga forest reserves, has 677 homes, 126 shop lots cum offices, and a family park.
This largest township development in Sabah is equipped with modern infrastructure and landscapes for homeowners to experience a modern lifestyle.
New Tawau Airport
The Tawau Airport is situated approximately 31 km from Tawau city and was officially opened in December 2001. With a 3,000 metres long full-service runway, Tawau Airport s is able to accommodate bigger aircrafts such as the Airbus series.
A new 10,000 sq. metre terminal, equipped with airport facilities and services, caters to the increasing number of tourists destined to Pulau Sipadan, one of the richest marine habitats in the world, and other attractive marine and natural parks located nearby Tawau.
Tawau Airport History
During the early days, Tawau airport was located on Jalan Utara, literally known as Northern road about 2 miles away from Tawau. The airport was officially opened in 1968 by the former Transport Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Haji Sardon. It was only used to cater to small aircraft, such as Fokker 50.
In the early 80’s, Malaysia Airlines (MAS)’s Boeing 737 made a maiden flight to Tawau airport after the runaway had been broaden. It has been taking in flights from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Lahad Datu since then.
The airport was subsequently opened to public in December 2001. Tawau Airport became the second largest airport in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

The Al-Kauthar Mosque
The Al-Kauthar mosque, which can accommodate a 17,000-strong congregation at anyone time, was completed in October 2002 and declared opened by the King in August 2004. It is equipped with a library, a seminar hall and an administrative office.
The mosque is described by the King as Sabah’s largest and most beautiful landmark.
This new Tawau Mosque is located on the reclaimed area of Sabindo.
